Lighting and use
- Stack 6 to 8 briquettes in a pyramid with a natural firelighter, or use a chimney starter.
- Wait 15 minutes: the briquettes turn white and the embers are ready.
- Spread them out and adjust the heat with the air vents; one load lasts all evening.
- Let them cool completely; the small amount of ash can go on the compost.
Burning charcoal releases carbon monoxide, which is invisible and odourless, even without smoke. Use outdoors or under an extractor hood; never in a closed room.
