Lighting tips

Light up in 10 minutes, without chemical firelighters

  1. Stack 6 to 8 briquettes in a pyramid with a natural firelighter, or use a chimney starter.
  2. Wait 15 minutes: the briquettes turn white and the embers are ready.
  3. Spread them out and adjust the heat with the air vents; one load lasts all evening.
  4. Let them cool completely; the small amount of ash can go on the compost.

Bamboo or coconut?

Bamboo lights quickly, gives strong embers in 10 minutes and lasts 5 to 6 hours: perfect for grilling, the plancha and restaurant service. Coconut heats up more slowly, lasts up to 7 hours and keeps a very steady heat: ideal for the kamado, slow cooking and smoking.

Safety: burning charcoal releases carbon monoxide, which is invisible and odourless, even without smoke. Use outdoors or under an extractor hood; never in a closed room.
